The US rock band Aerosmith from Boston was founded in 1969. After band names such as The Hookers and Spike Jones were rejected, the band members agreed on the name Aerosmith in 1970. The current members Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer are still among the most successful rock bands in the world today. The Bad Boys from Boston are the best-selling rock band in America. With around 150 million records sold, Aerosmith holds the record for the number of gold and platinum albums.
In the early years, Aerosmith's style was almost exclusively blues. In 1973, the band led by Steven Tyler released their debut album Aerosmith. It wasn't until the third Aerosmith album Toys in the Attic in 1975 that the typical Aerosmith style was revealed: hard rock and blues rock. With this album, Aerosmith finally entered the league of rock superstars. The Aerosmith album Rocks, released in 1976, is the most successful Aerosmith album to date and has gone platinum eight times. A year later, the album Draw the Line signalled the beginning of the band's disintegration. The history of Aerosmith reads like a good drama: success, groupies, drug problems, conflicts within the band - it really had it all.
